Summer Internship Positions at Sandia
February 4th, 2010Sandia has created a PSAAP specific job opening for the coming summer; the deadline for applying is 3/25/10. Instructions for applying are below. There are also other positions available at the Sandia Job Search site that might be of interest.
1. PSAAP Graduate Summer Intern – 64744
Department Description: The Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) Program at Sandia National Laboratories conducts research in computer science and computational science and engineering with application to a broad range of science and engineering applications of national and global importance. ASC researchers are pursuing basic methodological developments needed to establish ?Predictive Science? as the application of verified and validated large-scale computational simulations to predict properties and dynamics of complex systems. This goal will requires the integration of a diverse set of disciplines; each discipline in its own right is an important component of many applications. Success requires software and algorithmic frameworks for integrating models and code from multiple disciplines into a single application, as well as significant disciplinary strength and depth to make that integration effective. But, overall, success requires coordinating the entire simulation capability around an uncertainty quantification methodology that will support making a quantifiably accurate prediction.
Job Description: The ASC program seeks multiple students to participate in collaborative research across a wide range of areas in computer science, and computational science and engineering. Possible research areas include advanced computer architectures, systems software, scalable linear and nonlinear solvers, continuous and discrete optimization, uncertainty quantification, multiscale methods, visualization, as well as continuum mechanics and atomistic simulation techniques. Students are also sought with interests in applying computational methods to scientific and engineering applications including shock and impact physics, MHD, CFD, hypersonics, electrical systems, MEMS, and nanoscience.
These student internships are for motivated and enthusiastic individuals with excellent communication skills who have the desire to gain research experience in a highly collaborative research environment. Successful applicants will be exposed to a wide range of computational research at Sandia and will have a strong project-based research experience working directly with Sandia staff scientists.
Required/Desired Applicants must be a member of an ASC/PSAAP Center project team and pursuing a graduate degree in mathematics, computer science, or a science or engineering discipline with a strong academic record.
Please have your graduate students from your PSAAP team who are interested in intern opportunities at Sandia apply to the PSAAP Intern job posting.
Instructions for applying:
Go to http://www.sandia.gov
select Careers (at top middle of page)
select Job Search (bottom, right of page)
select Search for Openings (near top) ]
Enter “64744″ in the Key word search.
This will bring up the job posting entitled: “PSAAP Graduate Summer Student Intern”
Students need to formally apply to this posting unless s/he has a Sandia host identified and this host has directed the student to apply to a specific alternate posting.
